I didn't realize that there are so many great emotions that go along with the creation of a child. I was telling Josh the other day that I feel as though our love has gotten even deeper than it was before. Just knowing that we have created a human being together is simply an indescribably AMAZING feeling. It makes me nervous for my child - "Am I going to be able to supply enough love for both my husband, child, and loved ones like you?" I continue to wonder this as Josh simply reminds me that, "Everything will all work out!" It is so great to have such a supportive and caring husband - he's going to be a great dad (thanks to Mom and Dad Urich)!
As if that's not enough of an "up" there have been many more that I have been experiencing. I am so very excited to grow and learn as my child grows and learns inside of me. I read the other day that by 17 weeks a fetuses ears are fully developed and can start to recognize sounds including its parents' voices. Our child is hearing my heart beating and the swishing of the fluids in the placenta and recognizing those as comforting sounds - already! I have been trying to talk to my child, but it seems really crazy at first. Although I have done so in private. I hope to start reading to her soon.
I am also looking forward to our next doctor's appointment. We will be able to hear the heartbeat again (for those of you who have children, it is a delightful sound). We will also get to see her via ultrasound, which is simply amazing as well. We would be able to find out the gender of our child, but we are going to have that as one of our "ups" on the day that it is born. (NOTE: I refer to our child as a "she" because from the moment we found out we were expecting I have had this gut feeling that it is going to be a girl. It's not because I know something you don't and am not sharing it with you.) I am also looking forward to the day that our child is born! Well, DUH! I am curious to see what features our child has and how Josh and I have come together to meld one human being.
Wow, doesn't pregnancy sound like the most wonderful thing in the world? Well, it is, but it definitely comes with its "downs". These are the parts of the roller coaster that I'd rather not admit or even remember! These are the true but scary parts that I have experienced so far and I haven't even stepped foot into the delivery room. There was the time that I went to feed Lucy and the smell of her dog food simply repulsed me to the point of vomiting up stomach bile. Josh has taken over that duty (Great Husband Reason #68). Then there was that Saturday morning where I puked up my breakfast so violently that I ended up pissing all over myself (that is one I HATE to admit). Then shortly after that I called my mom feeling so embarrassed and upset that she had trouble understanding what I was saying because I was crying so hard. And her response, "It's all fun and games until someone gets pregnant!" Thanks mom, I needed that laugh.
Then there was the time when we were on our way home from Josh's parents house (they live about 5 and a half hours away from us) and we got stuck in Silverthorn, CO because I-70 was closed due to a horrible blizzard. We found refuge in the rec. center, but had to sleep on the hard wood gym floor with one pillow, one blanket, and our dog! That was one of the worst experiences of my life, but it doesn't end there. In the morning we got up and went to get something to eat, but before I could even get into the car, I had one of those violent vomiting attacks again and peed in my pants again! Luckily I had done laundry at the Urich's house and had clean clothes to change into, so I change discretely in the car. Then we went to get something to eat. As we were sitting in the car eating our breakfast the DJ announced that there was an alternate route opened, so we decided to get on the road. After about 15 minutes of riding in the car, my breakfast came back to haunt me (I vow never to eat McDonald's again). I ended up throwing up in my mouth and panicked looking for a way to get it out of the car. I tried opening the door, but it wouldn't open due to the fact that we were still moving. So then Josh saved me again and rolled down my window from his side of the car (Great Husband Reason #74). I told him not to stop because I just wanted to get home! I ended up puking all over the side of his truck and wetting myself AGAIN! Luckily I still had clean clothes to change into. We finally arrived home 26 hours after we had left the Urich's house (not bad timing).
Yes, the list of "downs" continues. Another "down" is being so constipated that I have to take a stool softener (I thought only old people had to take stool softeners). Then there is the feeling of being so fat that none of your clothes fit. It reminds me of those Subway commericals where the people order the "number 4 with a side of bloating, feeling fat and not being able to get a boyfriend" -pregnancy is the same way. I have broke down and bought some maternity clothes and boy am I glad. I am not really showing yet, but all of my regular clothes are too tight.

All I can say now is that the "ups" definitely outweigh the "downs" and I am anxious to see what new adventures this roller coaster ride continues to take me on! We will keep all of you updated!
