The song of Springtime!

This morning while I was cooking breakfast, I heard a sound that I have yearning to hear for quite sometime now - the birds' sweet songs. I told Kyler to listen to the sweet melodies and take it all in, because I surely did.

What remains of our at least 7-foot tall snowman is just a deformed blob that doesn't even come close to resembling a snowman at all. The scarf, carrot and rocks we used to make him come to life were found scattered amongst the yard. Kyler picked up the carrot and ran it over to Josh yelling, "Dadee, dadee!" as if to show him something he hadn't already noticed. Since our snow day on Wednesday, the weather has done nothing but improve.

Today we took the time to enjoy the weather and take it all in!I am ready to sing my springtime melody! T-minus 5 days until SPRING BREAK!

A SNOW day in the life of Kyler!

7:00 am ~ Woke up and snuggled in the bed with Mommy and Daddy.

7:20 am ~ Ate a good healthy breakfast consisting of 1 "waff" (waffle), 4-5 strawberries, 1 egg scrambled, 1 piece of turkey bacon with milk to wash it ALL down!

8:30 am ~ Helped Mommy shovel the driveway
9:00 am ~ Rode my bike while wearing Mommy out in the process! I LOVE IT! 9:45 am ~ Threw a fit because I didn't want to come in from playing outside.

10:00 am ~ SNACK TIME - I LOVE to EAT! This time I ate 1 banana, 2 granola bars, 2-3 strawberries, with a sippy-cup of milk.

10:30 am ~ Mommy distracted me from wanting to go outside with one of my favorite things to do - COLORING. Luckily, when I was sick from daycare last week Deb saved all of my projects and gave them to my mom. So we made this cool Safari hat!

11:00 am ~ We got all bundled up again to go and play out in the back yard! Daddy worked on building a humongous snow man!

I helped by getting the carrot for his nose!
The "man's" snowman is finished!

Mommy took pictures of our peach tree budding with snow on it.
I sat in the snow for awhile and even tasted it (my mommy and daddy told me not to eat the yellow snow though!)
I played chase with Lucy.
Then we had a family snowball fight! I didn't like it and cried at first because I thought daddy was hurting mommy, but then I realized that it was all in good fun!

12:30 pm ~ We all had worked up a good appetite, so we came inside to eat lunch. I ate 1/2 of a turkey sloppy joe, 5 slices of cucumber and a cheese stick. It was all yummy!

1:30 pm ~ Man, am I spent!
But I know that my mommy has been working hard on a delicious treat for me when I get up!Peanut butter M&M cookies - my FAVORITE!

Luck o' the Irish!

St. Patrick's Day has always been a special day. My great-grandparents came over on the ship from Ireland, making my grandmother first generation American. I can remember my mom cooking corned beef and cabbage and baking Irish Soda Bread for every St. Patrick's Day while I was growing up (boy, I could use her to come and cook it again this week). Then she would use the leftovers to make "red-flannel hash" -yuck (I passed on dinner those nights)! Just the mention of St. Paddy's Day brings back many fond memories. Since 2003 our family has made it a tradition to go to Denver and watch the St. Patrick's Day parade while drinking Irish Red Beer, Baileys, and Irish Car Bombs from a window seat in the Breckenridge Brewery. This year was no exception. Kyler marveled at the parade sights, I had a few Irish brews, and Josh and I shared a Ruben sandwich (that's the closest we got to the traditional boiled dinner), and we shared the whole experience with great family and friends. We are truly LUCKY!

Imagine this!

One thing that I have really loved about motherhood is watching the mind of a child develop day after day. Kyler's imagination is really coming along. He enjoys pretending all the time! Deb has a dress-up bin at her house, and in there is a pair of cat ears. One day, when I went to pick him up, he had those on crawling around on his hands and knees, meowing like a cat. He has done this quite often, but more recently he has pretended to be a dog (crawling around on his hands and knees and panting like a dog) and an elephant (crawling around on his hands and feet trumpeting like an elephant). He really gets a kick out of it and appreciates when we play along! Not only does Kyler like to pretend to be animals, but he has also pretended to feed himself and then even share with mommy and daddy. Sleeping is another one of his make-believe favorites. He has pretended to sleep just about everywhere around the house including the kitchen floor, the bath tub, the couch and even in the closet! My oh my, a child's mind is amazing and it is so fun to watch!

"I just want to bang on the drum all day!"

Even though Kyler is in love with playing outside, he has found a nice indoor hobby. The other day we were watching Sesame Street (my how it has changed since I was young...Elmo actually gets e-mail now!), and Elmo did a whole segment on drums. Kyler was infatuated - he couldn't take his eyes off the T.V. So while he was finishing up the show, I realized that our oatmeal container was nearly empty, so I got busy making it into a drum. We covered it with construction paper and printed off some pictures of different kinds of drums to paste onto it. Then we found a pair of bamboo chopsticks that double quite nicely as drumsticks.

This homemade drum is one of Kyler's favorite toys - and it was absolutely free (the best things in life usually are free)! This morning Kyler was playing it and then he brought the drumsticks over to me and said, "Ma ma!" He wanted me to have a turn - what good manners my son has (thanks mostly to Deb)!

Sweet, sweet Springtime...oh how we long for you!

The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer! Oh, how we long for spring to come. Kyler has just gotten a taste of it and he is absolutely in love! Whenever it is time to come in he throws a fit!
