SNOW DAY!

Spring Blizzard 2009 - This morning as I was dreading getting out of bed, I was thinking about the best way to get Kyler to daycare and myself to work. After a few minutes of comtemplating, I finally brought myself to get up out of bed and into the shower - clearly complaining to Josh that school should have been called off and we should still be in bed. I wasn't even a whole minute into my shower (my hair wasn't even wet), and I received a phone call from my teaching partner that school had been CANCELED! HURRAY! I couldn't have been happier! After yesterday we deserved the whole day off. The majority of yesterday was spent trying to call 24 parents (good thing 8 of my students we absent or else it would have been 32) to tell them that school was going to be dismissed 2 hours early.

So...we took advantage of the day and played outside!



Colorado weather is so very interesting. Last weekend Josh and I were doing some yard work and brought Kyler out to play in the grass. We went from summer-like weather to a blizzard in just 4 short days - I shouldn't forget to mention that mid 50's are forecasted for the weekend! Gotta love Colorado weather - I do!

Who needs fancy toys?

It seems as though the simplest toys create the most fun! The other day when we got home from school/daycare, it was quite warm in our house so I decided to strip Kyler down and take off his socks. I started to wave them in front of his face saying, "Pee ewe!" He thought it was the funniest thing, and was giggling the cutest little "gut-giggle" around. Then I decided to see what he would do if I put his socks on his hands. We had tons of fun, and all it took was just one pair of socks!

Luck 'O the Irish

Going back...to St. Patrick's Day of 2004. My mother called me up and asked me if we would like to join her for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Denver. At the time I thought this was just another stupid idea that didn't sound like very much fun for me. So we got down to Denver and set up our chairs along the parade route right next to Coors Field. The exciting part thus far, had been watching the street vendors sell things for much more than they had probably purchased them for from "Oriental Trading". My mom needed to use the restroom so she went on a short venture down the street. As she was walking back, we noticed that she had a "spring in her step". She then announced that there was a bar down the street that was selling Irish Red beer, shots of Bailey's and Irish Car Bombs. Maybe this wasn't such a stupid idea after all. We proceeded to get drunk on the patio at Breckenridge Brewery. Since then, it has become tradition to hang out at the brewery during the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Spring is in the air!

With highs in the mid 70s - spring is definitely in the air. Josh and I were just talking about just how much we love this time of year. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting nicer, and plant life is starting to come out of "hibernation". Not only that, but the the school year is coming to a close (that is the part I love the most). I must admit, spring comes in at a close second when talking about my favorite season (duh - summer ranks #1).

This weekend was quite a nice one in the Urich household - and not just because the weather has been phenomenal. The Greeley West boys basketball team made it into the state playoffs this year, and they were playing their first game down in Pueblo, Co. Josh is the team's stat man so he has been traveling around the state with the team. We decided to make a weekend out of it and stay the night down south. On Friday night the boys defeated Falcon and made it to the "Elite 8". We stayed the night in Colorado Springs and went to "The Garden of the Gods" on Saturday morning.

The basketball team played their next game on Saturday afternoon in Denver, so we headed back up to Denver. Unfortunately they lost, but not by much. All things considered, Kyler did a great job!

Today we have just been hanging out. We took a stroll down to the park and tried out our new baby backpack - we are looking forward to getting more use out of it.

Eight Excellent Months

Kyler turned eight months old this week. Yeah, yeah every time I post about how old Kyler is I am stunned at just how quickly time seems to be flying with him around. But, eight months? Has it really been that long - the time has just flown by! Before you know it he'll be a year old! I guess the saying, "Time flies when you're having fun!" is accurate. I surely am having tons of fun being a mother!

Laundry Day!

I usually spend some time on the weekends doing laundry. I just let it "pile-up" over the week and usually do 6-8 loads in one day. Last weekend Kyler wanted to help me.

Resume for Life

Post #100 - it better be a good one - right?!

Last weekend I spent some time revising and updating my resume. Yes, after this school year I may be in the market for a new teaching position. So...as I was going over my resume I was thinking about what it would be like to create a "life resume". This is what I have come up with:

ELIZABETH URICH

OBJECTIVE: To lead a happy, healthy life yet make a difference to at least one person along the way.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2008-Present MOTHER
-Experience what it feels like to love someone more than I love myself
-Duties included, but aren't limited to: changing diapers, being spit-up on, comforting, reading to, bathing, feeding, clothing, playing games, singing songs, and providing for my son.
-Gained knowledge about childbirth and continuing my education of child rearing

2007-Present AUNT
-Greeted Jillian home from the hospital
-Give hugs and kisses when needed

2004-Present WIFE
-Made a life-long commitment to the man of my dreams
-Cooperated to make a home for our child
-Learned to love "whole-heartedly"
-Serve and honor my husband while being served and honored by him
-Married my best friend

2003-Present TEACHER
-Became responsible for teaching various subject areas (including: Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Writing) to a classroom of 18-33 students
-Stood up for what I thought was right for my students even if it meant that I was "black balled"
-Handed out band-aids for boo-boos, cried with my students, laughed with (and at) my students, and learned from many of my students

1985-Present STUDENT
-Came to love the learning process and am very thankful for all of the wonderful teachers I was fortunate enough to have
-Did my homework when I felt like it
-Created the motto, "C's get Degrees" when I was struggling in college

1985-Present FRIEND
-Played numerous childhood games (including: hopscotch, jumprope, Red Rover, Tic Tac Toe, MASH, tag, Shera the Warrior Princess, Trolls, Barbies, Popples, house, etc.)
-Comforted friends though divorce, break-ups, and other troubles
-Talked on the phone countless hours
-Celebrated many joys which included marriage, childbirth, graduations, birthday celebrations and other holiday celebrations

-Relished in the fact that I am the only girl of four children
-Took beatings from my brothers regularly
-Gave beatings to my brothers regularly
-Cried on shoulders and gotten my shoulder cried on many a times
-Gained an everlasting sibling bond/rivalry with my three brothers

-Learned to love unconditionally
-Experienced every emotion possible
-Gave my parents grief over very minimal things

I am not the best at what I do, but I do enjoy being all of these things everyday!

I've heard of some people writing their own obituary to see what they have accomplished in their life, but I have found that writing your own life's resume can be just as effective. I have really enjoyed doing this and it has made me realize just how many lives I have touched.
