Any Day Now

Well, today I went into the doctor for my weekly check up. Everything looks really good. The baby's heartbeat was around the 170's, which is a little more elevated than it has been, but still good. My blood pressure was great at 120/78, and overall I am feeling ok. I finally figured out why pregnant women waddle - when the baby dropped into my pelvis, it became really painful! I am 1 centimeter dilated and about 70% effaced. I'm not going to lie, when the doctor said that, I was pretty elated. This baby could be born any day now! Although when I called my mom to tell her, she kind of busted my bubble by telling me that she walked around for a couple of weeks being 2 centimeters dilated - ug! I am trying to admit the fact that the baby will come on her/his own time. Although, if the baby is anything like her mother (prompt and punctual), she will be born on her due date of June 25.





Like mother, like daughter - right? My step dad likes to say, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." I, of course, am "the apple" and my mother is "the tree". But we may have to worry about the next generation of "apples". That is why I couldn't resist buying this cute little onesie!

Happy Father's Day

Josh's first Father's Day was terrific! Even though he doesn't really feel like a father yet, we did a little celebrating. I gave him his Father's day gift, which was tickets to the Mile High Music Festival. He was so happy when he saw the tickets that he couldn't even finish reading the card!

After the inital shock of the music festival tickets was over, we went out for a nice breakfast at the Paragon (a little "hole in the wall"), took Lucy on a nice long walk around Riverside Park, went to a performance at Josh's High School and then went out to dinner at Johnny Carino's. Yes, we like to eat out - or should I say that I don't like to cook!

The day after Father's day, we were lucky enough to be able to meet up with Josh's dad! He was traveling through Colorado Springs, so we went down and met up with him and Josh's Aunt Karen for dinner. We had a great time!

Happy Father's Day Dad, John, Gerald, and Josh! You all are great fathers to us!

The Waiting Game

According to the ticker on the side bar we only have 17 days until Baby Urich is due. I was just reading on the ivillage website that as of Wednesday I will be 38 weeks pregnant, which is considered "full-term". That means Baby Urich can be born any day now. I dreamt that our baby was born on Saturday so that its birthday would be 06-07-08, but no such luck! With our luck, Baby Urich will probably be late.

I am definitely ready to be finished with being pregnant, but I'm not too sure that I am ready to bring Baby Urich home and be responsible for a life other than mine. Just thinking about that makes my blood pressure rise. I'm sure we will be fine, but I just might be calling some of you who have offered your helping hands. Thankfully, Josh will have plenty of time with us too, since he will be on summer break!

I am feeling pretty good, but I lose energy very quickly. I have gained a total of 26 pounds, which my doctor thinks is great (it is on the low side of "normal"). But, it is getting very difficult for me to do simple things like sit up, put on my pants, and bend over to pick up anything off of the floor. It is a good thing that the weather is getting warmer so that I can just wear flip-flops, because I recall have trouble putting on socks when I was just six months pregnant.

Nursery Tour

After the shower all I wanted to do was get everything unwrapped and put away. Josh swore up and down that I was beginning the nesting stage. Maybe I was and maybe I wasn't, but I did get mostly everything washed and put away in the nursery. Still life pictures really can't capture the feeling of being in the nursery, so I decided to take a little tour. This is for all of you who live far, far away and couldn't make it out here.

Much Needed Parental Advice

Aloha Baby ~ Baby Shower Part Dux

As many of you know, last Sunday we had our co-ed, Hawaiian themed baby shower. It was a huge success (thanks to all of the people that helped pull it off)! Many of our close friends and family came to celebrate our child with us. It went to show us just how great of a support system we have around us that we are ever so thankful for. We also got a lot of very generous gifts, which will become very useful in the upcoming days. Josh, Baby Urich, and I have so much to be very greatful for! Thank you so very much!

To go along with our Hawaiian theme we had leis, fresh fruit, little umbrellas for our drinks, not to mention a 68 pound roasted pig. The food was all very delicious, the weather couldn't have been better, the drinks flowed like water, the cake was magnificent, and the company was terrific! All of which I could take no credit for.

The only thing that I regret from that day is that we didn't get any good pictures. If I was smart I would have put someone in charge of my camera. If you were there and have pictures, we would love to have them. I will post pictures as soon as I get some.

Being Pregnant with My Best Friend - Baby Shower Part 1

Angy and I are not only best friends, but we have been teaching the same grade for 4 years together. We have become pretty inseperable (that's funny that I said that, because our principal has split us up for next year - :( boo hoo)! Everyone at work, even the students, call us sisters. So...it is pretty ironic that we got pregnant together as well. I am nearing 35 weeks of prenancy and she is right behind me nearing 32 weeks. It is so great to have someone so close to share this exciting adventure with. I feel like I have someone to talk to who truly understands what I am going through! So...last Monday, May 12, our school threw us a duel baby shower. It was terrific! I am so very thankful to work with such a caring and generous group of people! Here are a few pictures!

My First Mother's Day

Last Thursday I received a Mother's Day card in the mail from my mother-in-law. This truly shocked me because I really hadn't thought about the fact that I am now a mother. It was such a pleasant surprise.

Today, for Mother's Day, I was pampered by my wonderful husband. He woke me up with a card, some candy that I have been craving since I dreamt about it about 2 months ago, and a gift card to Victoria's Secret. This was a pleasant surprise as well. Now I can buy that teddy that will look so sexy on my pregnant body - just kidding! They have some really cute maternity/nursing pajamas that I've been wanting.

Then we traveled down to my mom's house in Frederick. On our way down there we stopped by the grocery store to buy my mom some flowers. When the clerk noticed that I was pregnant he got a giant smile on his face and said, "Happy Mother's Day to you!" I was so caught off guard that I didn't really know how to respond. Eventually I said, "Thank you."

After getting to my mother's house, we had a "tea party/brunch" on the back porch and all wore our wonderful hats (provided by my mother to keep the sun off of our faces). Everyone agreed that mine was the best - you can decide that one for yourself.
