Much Needed Parental Advice

Aloha Baby ~ Baby Shower Part Dux

As many of you know, last Sunday we had our co-ed, Hawaiian themed baby shower. It was a huge success (thanks to all of the people that helped pull it off)! Many of our close friends and family came to celebrate our child with us. It went to show us just how great of a support system we have around us that we are ever so thankful for. We also got a lot of very generous gifts, which will become very useful in the upcoming days. Josh, Baby Urich, and I have so much to be very greatful for! Thank you so very much!

To go along with our Hawaiian theme we had leis, fresh fruit, little umbrellas for our drinks, not to mention a 68 pound roasted pig. The food was all very delicious, the weather couldn't have been better, the drinks flowed like water, the cake was magnificent, and the company was terrific! All of which I could take no credit for.

The only thing that I regret from that day is that we didn't get any good pictures. If I was smart I would have put someone in charge of my camera. If you were there and have pictures, we would love to have them. I will post pictures as soon as I get some.

Being Pregnant with My Best Friend - Baby Shower Part 1

Angy and I are not only best friends, but we have been teaching the same grade for 4 years together. We have become pretty inseperable (that's funny that I said that, because our principal has split us up for next year - :( boo hoo)! Everyone at work, even the students, call us sisters. So...it is pretty ironic that we got pregnant together as well. I am nearing 35 weeks of prenancy and she is right behind me nearing 32 weeks. It is so great to have someone so close to share this exciting adventure with. I feel like I have someone to talk to who truly understands what I am going through! So...last Monday, May 12, our school threw us a duel baby shower. It was terrific! I am so very thankful to work with such a caring and generous group of people! Here are a few pictures!

My First Mother's Day

Last Thursday I received a Mother's Day card in the mail from my mother-in-law. This truly shocked me because I really hadn't thought about the fact that I am now a mother. It was such a pleasant surprise.

Today, for Mother's Day, I was pampered by my wonderful husband. He woke me up with a card, some candy that I have been craving since I dreamt about it about 2 months ago, and a gift card to Victoria's Secret. This was a pleasant surprise as well. Now I can buy that teddy that will look so sexy on my pregnant body - just kidding! They have some really cute maternity/nursing pajamas that I've been wanting.

Then we traveled down to my mom's house in Frederick. On our way down there we stopped by the grocery store to buy my mom some flowers. When the clerk noticed that I was pregnant he got a giant smile on his face and said, "Happy Mother's Day to you!" I was so caught off guard that I didn't really know how to respond. Eventually I said, "Thank you."

After getting to my mother's house, we had a "tea party/brunch" on the back porch and all wore our wonderful hats (provided by my mother to keep the sun off of our faces). Everyone agreed that mine was the best - you can decide that one for yourself.

The Name Game

We would LOVE to hear your name suggestions for Baby Urich! Naming our child has been a pretty daunting task considering we are both teachers. We need your help! Just leave any names that you would like to suggest as a comment to this post.

Unimagined Joys

There are some things that I really LOVE about pregnancy! Like I mentioned before, I am just entering into my 32nd week of pregnancy and I feel pretty great. I consider myself one of the very fortunate ones. My doctor even commented, "You are carrying so well that maybe you were meant to have eight kids." Josh and I just looked at each other and said, "EIGHT KIDS!" I am having trouble imagining our house with just one child nevermind eight!

Speaking of doctor's appointments, we had one last Friday (I am now going every two weeks) and everything sounds and looks great. I have gained a total of 19 pounds (the average full-term pregnancy is 25-35 lbs.). The baby's heartbeat was in the high 130's (if you believe the old wives tale, we are having a boy). My blood pressure was better than it has ever been (112/71), and the baby is head down already. All is good in the uterohood!

I am one of the lucky ones. Like Josh has mentioned we have started our childbirthing classes, and there are some women there that seem so much more miserable than me. There is this one woman who is due two days before I am and she is so uncomfortable that she would like to have the baby now. Granted, there are times in which I am uncomfortable, but not that bad! Like a good friend once told me, "You gotta take the bad with the good."

Pregnancy has also brought me some joys that I never could have imagined. The joy of a stronger family connection. My family is very excited for the two of us. My mom and I talk almost everyday, and if we are out of contact for more than three days, she calls and says, "What am I chopped liver or something?!" But I am her only daughter and I am pregnant. I am very thankful that I have such a caring mom! Josh's family is very estatic as well. The baby that I am carrying is their first grandchild. We have also been a lot more connected to them, which is a joy that I wouldn't exchange for anything! This just goes to show that our child will be loved by so many people - including you!

Reality Sets In

I am nearing the 32nd week of pregnancy and I feel great! All of my girlfriends who have already had children have told me just how fast the pregnancy would pass, but I couldn't imagine that it would go this fast (especially while puking out of the side of our truck on the way home from The Urich's in January)! Thirty-two weeks marks the beginning of the eighth month, one-third of the way through the third trimester, and the reality that we will be bringing home a child in just a couple of short months.

Talk about reality...

We are in the process of finding childcare for our child. We had our first interview last Friday and it went really well. We probably would have gone with her had she not said that she wanted us to interview others. Thanks to the United Way of Weld County, this process has been pretty easy. I was able to call and answer a few questions, and they generated a list of referred people in our area. All I need to do is interview, check references, and check up on their licenses. Not too much especially with the amazing tool called the Internet!

We are also in the process of shopping for health insurance. I put this one on the "Honey do List". Considering the fact that Josh called within a couple of days of me asking - during his precious teacher plan time from school - really convinced me that he is, not only the best husband on Earth, but going to be an AMAZING father(like I didn't know this already).

Ring of Fire

Hey all, Daddy here. We attended our 2nd of 7 childbirthing classes ( I was begging for 4) this past Wednesday. They are much better than I had anticipated. They are very informative and eye-opening. I'm thankful that I don't have to experience the "ring of fire." What is the "ring of fire?" Okay guys, here's what you do...hook your left index finger in your mouth, hook your right index finger in your mouth, pull...no pull harder! Now associate that somewhere else. OWWWWW...NO THANKS!!!

Attending the classes and going to the doctor every two weeks is certainly starting to increase my anticipation and excitement.

We had another appointment today. Everything was great. I was even able to capture the baby's heartbeat. Check it out!
